Abstract :
There is widespread interest in the passive optical network as a solution for a future fiber in the loop network. This paper addresses the problem of synchronization at the line termination of a passive optical network that uses high-speed time division multiple access. Synchronization is a critical function since each asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) cell arrives with unknown phase. An ASIC has been developed to perform this function at 622 Mb/s and is outlined here
