Abstract
In this paper, we have developed the mixed lubricant, which consists of bonded FDTS islands and mobile perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricant. The mixed lubricant was deposited on a magnetic disk surface with a carbon overcoat by immersion and dip-coating process, and the durability of the disk was evaluated by a scratch tester. The critical load of the disk coated with the mixed lubricant is higher than that of the disk coated with purely mobile PFPE lubricant even though the film thickness of the former is smaller than that of the latter. It is because that the FDTS islands allow to trap and maintain the mobile PFPE molecules on the disk surface.
