Abstract :
Corona in overhead transmission lines is a highly nonlinear and nondeterministic phenomenon. Circuit models have been developed to represent its behaviour, but the response of these models is usually limited to a narrow set of frequencies. The circuit model presented in this paper achieves a much wider frequency response than previous models: (1) by matching more closely the topology of the circuit; and (2) by using a second-order circuit response to match the high-order dynamic response of the phenomenon. The resulting model is valid for a wide range of frequencies and is able to represent waveshapes from switching to lightning surges. The model is applied to the EMTP program and simulations of q-v measurements and travelling surges are presented
