Abstract :
An analytical model is developed for calculating the cross-track correlation length in a perpendicular recording system, including both the medium inter-granular exchange and the magnetostatic interactions. For a typical range of parameters in current perpendicular recording systems, the cross-track correlation length varies from about 0.7-0.9 of the average grain diameter: at zero exchange, to about 2-3 at a strong exchange field of 0.1HK. The relation with jitter noise is also investigated.
