Abstract :
Hydrothermal reduction synthesis of transition-metal sulfide nanophase is the treatment of aqueous solutions of precursors such as cobalt acetate and thiourea at elevated temperatures in pressurized vessels. In this technique, particle size, morphology, and phase homogeneity can be controlled rendering materials with a wide range of magnetic properties. We report the synthesis and structural characterization of a mixture of CoS1.035 (30%) and Co9S8 (70%) nanoparticles that were prepared by this method and discuss their magnetic properties over the temperature range 2.0-300 K.
