Abstract
A vicalloy wire, made by twisting and other work-hardening, has compound layers with different magnetic characteristics. When an external ac magnetic field is applied to a twisted wire in the direction of its axis, a pulse voltage with a half-maximum width of about 20 ¿s can be observed, with an induced emf of more than 2 mV/turn in a search coil wound around the wire. The characteristics of the output voltage in the compound magnetic wire are described, and the operating principle of the magnetic sensitive wire is compared with that of Wiegand wire. The operating range of the wire in a disturbed magnetic field increases with the number of twists.
