Fieldbus status 1995

Industrial actuators, sensors and multiplexers for factory and process automation are rapidly adopting embedded intelligence to enhance their capability and add value for end users. Fieldbus is the enabling technology that supports this transition, and consequently Fieldbus has become a very strategic area as competing groups push for market or political advantages that result from adoption of their preferred approach. This article introduces the main groups active in developing Fieldbus standards, their support groups and the current state of progress.
