Abstract
A hierarchical micromagnetic model has been used to investigate the role of magnetostatic anisotropy in textured or polished thin film rigid disks. The model shows that such polishing can create strong orientation by magnetostatically decoupling the film in the cross track direction. This effect is shown to be stronger where there is chain growth along the polishing grooves
