Abstract :
Catastrophic destruction of fluoride and chalcogenide optical fibres under laser radiation in the wavelength region 1-1.5 μm has been investigated for the first time. Different characteristics and much lower thresholds of catastrophic damage compared to silica-based fibres have been discovered
