Abstract :
sinusoidal surface roughness were prepared, and modulation noise in the tapes was measured using a VHS format VCR. It was found that the modulation noise contained both amplitude-modulation (AM) and phase-modulation (PM) components; the AM and PM noise increased with increasing ratio of surface roughness to recording wavelength, and PM noise increased wih decreases in the ratio of thespatial wavelength of the tape surface roughness to the recording wavelength.
