Abstract :
This paper describes how the Manx Electricity Authority decided to construct an optical fibre communication link between its main control centre, power stations and primary substations. Having considered various options, it was decided to replace the existing centre phase conductor on a 33 kV wood pole line with an optical phase conductor containing 24 optical fibres.
