Abstract :
Pronounced effects of an electric field on the Faraday-rotation in Cd1-xMnxTe films prepared by an ionized-cluster beam technique have been investigated in the wavelength range 480~800 nm at room temperature. With an increase in the electric field applied to the film, the Faraday rotation spectra of films exhibited a marked shift in dispersion wavelength toward longer wavelengths, and the peak height decreased. The change in the peak height at the dispersion wavelength induced by the electric field was of the order 10-4 deg/cm-G per kV/cm, and increased with an increase in the composition x. This can be explained by the ionization of excitons due to the Franz-Keldysh effect.
