Abstract :
STM-64 (10 Gbit/s) nonregenerative transmission experiments using forward error correcting codes have been conducted for the first time. Bit errors caused by dispersion in the transmission line and optical noise of Er-doped fibre amplifiers were successfully corrected by using (18880, 18865) and (2370, 2358) shortened Hamming codes
