Abstract
Traditional uses of programmable controllers in cement plants are reviewed and expanded into the capabilities of today´s state-of-the-art programmable controllers. A systems approach of centralized control, distributed process and machine interface, and intelligent peripherals is examined, detailing each area from simple motor control to process control. A model plant application is used to enhance the discussion further and to highlight the abilities of today´s modern, more powerful, programmable controllers in cement plant control. Process control applications are included as well as discrete sequential control applications.
