Abstract
The gas SF6 is predominantly used for electrical insulation and switching. Its possible environmental effects when released into the atmosphere are assessed. It is shown that the relative contribution of SF6 to the greenhouse effect is <0.01% and that its contribution to stratospheric ozone destruction is <10-7
