  • Abstract
Techniques for writing in the imperative or so-called streamlined mode, using the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) three-part format, are presented. Differences between the imperative and the indicative mood, as well as the many advantages of the abbreviated style are discussed. All of the sections follow a similar format; Products simply list what is to be purchased, Execution covers how to install the products. The format and the style of writing aid the specifier in developing clear concise documents. Various page formats are reviewed, with clarity for easy reference the main objective. Required coordination with related work and information in other divisions of the specifications is described. Guide specifications, master specifications systems, and industry standards are reviewed. Finally, methods of automating the specifications on the computer are presented.
