Abstract :
An actively modelocked erbium-doped fibre laser (EDFL) was irradiated with three separate doses that totalled 22 krad(Si). These in situ experiments allowed system performance to be monitored before, during, and after irradiation of the EDFL by gamma-rays. The optical pulse width, centre wavelength and bandwidth did not significantly change. Recovery periods between irradiation allowed the EDFL to anneal and recover a portion of its pre-irradiation output power.
