Abstract
In this tutorial article, local area networks (LANs) are explained in sufficient depth to enable managers to position LANs in an overall information processing strategy. The technology is explained, and such implementation issues as applications and costs are addressed. Specific product recommendations are not made but very definite recommendations regarding technology, standards, vendor criteria, and how a proposal should be approached are given.<>
