Abstract :
The present paper focuses on the mechanism of magnetic curtains. The pressure of gas flowing near a magnetic curtain was measured. Flows of gases such as nitrogen and oxygen were supplied to an air gap between the magnetic poles, and the differential pressure was measured with a manometer. It was found that the tendency of the magnetic curtain to block the gas flow can be classified into three general regions, according to the flow velocity. When the flow velocity is low, gas leaks out of the magnetic curtain (region 1). When the flow velocity is moderate, the gas flow is blocked (region 2). When the flow velocity is high, the gas flow is pinched in passing through the magnetic curtain (region 3). Based on experimental results, a model of magnetic curtains was introduced, and a magnetic curtain was simulated.
