Abstract :
The recording characteristics of single-pole thin film heads were investigated. Both a narrow track and a high linear recording density are necessary for high areal density recording. Single-pole thin film heads with the main pole thickness varied between 0.15 ¿m and 1.1 ¿m were trial-manufactured, and the recording characteristics were examined using a Co-Cr-Pt/Ni-Fe perpendicular magnetic recording medium. At a main pole thickness of 0.2 ¿m, a C/N ratio of 41 dB, media noise of 2.4 ¿Vrms and overwrite level of ¿30 dB were confirmed.
