Abstract
We investigated the magnetic properties of melt-spun Pr2 Fe14 C and several pseudoternary compounds of the types Pr2 (Fe,M)14 C and (Pr, R)2 Fe14C. A value for iHc of approximately 1.3 kOe was obtained in Pr2 Fe13 MnC alloy ribbons. Heavy rare earth substitution leads to an increase in the room temperature intrinsic coercivity. Values for iHc of 3 kOe and 6 kOe were achieved for (Pr0.6 Gd0.4 )2 Fe14 C and (Pr0.6 Dy0.4 )2 Fe14 C alloy ribbons respectively, and the composition Pr7.9 Dy5.2 Fe79.7 C7.2 was found to have a large intrinsic coercivity of 18 kOe.
