Abstract :
We investigated the magnetic properties of melt-spun Pr2Fe14C and several pseudoternary compounds of the types Pr2 (Fe,M)14C and (Pr, R)2Fe14C. A value for iHc of approximately 1.3 kOe was obtained in Pr2Fe13MnC alloy ribbons. Heavy rare earth substitution leads to an increase in the room temperature intrinsic coercivity. Values for iHc of 3 kOe and 6 kOe were achieved for (Pr0.6Gd0.4)2Fe14C and (Pr0.6Dy0.4)2Fe14C alloy ribbons respectively, and the composition Pr7.9Dy5.2Fe79.7C7.2 was found to have a large intrinsic coercivity of 18 kOe.
