Abstract
This paper deals with the modelling and the stability analysis of a hydroelectric power plant with two surge tanks placed upstream and downstream of the turbine. The interaction of the two surge tanks is investigated and the system is simulated for the case of sudden opening or closure of the turbine gates. The stability of the frequency control loop is assessed by using small signal analysis based on linearization. The above procedures have been applied to a real situation and proved to be extremely useful for preliminary control design purposes
