Abstract
In this report, a two-dimensional model is used to obtain an approximation of the generating magnetic force between the main contacting and intersecting zones of a magnetic gear using permanent magnets. A magnetic gear with a magnet interval ratio c/a=0.3 (a=magnet width, c=distance between magnets) is studied experimentally and analytically, taking into consideration the normal pitch tn and the dimensions of the SmCo5 magnets. For a relative rotational angle ¿=0°, experimental and calculated values were in good agreement. But when 0, the effects of three-dimensional magnetic components must be considered. Experiments clarified that a ratio c/a=0.5 should be adopted in designing a magnetic gear using permanent magnets in order to attain maximum transmitted force.
