Abstract :
Four technical problems have delayed the commercialization of Co-Cr video floppy disks (VFDs): (1) smooth head contact, (2) durability and reliability in various environments, (3) significant improvement of recording performance, and (4) attainment of reasonable cost. This paper demonstrates the feasibility of simultaneously achieving (1) and (3). As for (2), durability has been achieved at 23°C, 50% RH and at 40°C, 80% RH. Video image quality comparable to MP-VFD playback can be obtained at 1/6 the track width, namely 10 ¿m.
