Abstract
Guided wave mode propagation constants are determined for an infinite planar surface characterized by an anisotropic impedance tensor. Restrictions on the tensor elements implied by the imposition of a passivity requirement are presented. The conditions under which E and H modes can exist are determined. The special case of a lossless surface is considered.
