Abstract :
stract-Fe thin films were deposited on glass substrates using a pulsed Nd-YAG laser (¿=1.06 ¿m, ¿=250 ¿s). SEM observations showed that these films consisted mainly of fine crystallites less than 200 Å in size. Macroscopic particles, whose size depended on the energy density used, were also scattered throughout the samples. The streak image of the plume observed with an image converter camera showed that most of the ablated particles involved in film formation had a velocity of more than 104 cm/s. The saturation magnetic moment of the film was very close to the bulk value, and torque measurements revealed no perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.
