Abstract
The occurrence of levitation makes the characteristics of the arc different from the arc propagating along the insulator surface. The process of arc levitation on a contaminated glass surface has been recorded, and both the voltage and the leakage current waveforms are investigated. The gas temperature of the arc is also obtained by employing the spectrum relative-intensity method to explain the reason for arc levitation.
