Abstract :
A high-voltage integrated optical Mach-Zehnder interferometric voltage sensing device is described. It uses the electro-optic effect in a lithium niobate crystal. Reverse poling of one arm of the interferometer is employed. This permits a simple parallel-plate electrode structure for push-pull modulation. The device was characterised at a wavelength of 1.3 μm, with a detected output power of 1 mW. For an interaction length of 2 mm, a minimum detectable voltage sensitivity of 0.25 mV in a 0-1 MHz bandwidth has been measured
