Abstract :
The transmission limitations for high bit-rate amplified systems owing to a nonlinear effect known as modulation instability (MI) are presented. Experimental results for a 20 Gbit/s 560 km amplified system show a decrease in SNR of 8.5 dB when operated 5 nm into the anomalous dispersion regime. Compared to 5 nm into the normal dispersion regime
