Abstract :
This paper describes the design and implementation of a low-cost electronic version of a dynamic model capable of simulating the excitation control system of large synchronous generators used in power systems. This system, designed for use with microalternators, consists of a time constant regulator of a new design, a pulsewidth modulated (PWM) chopper driven exciter and an automatic voltage regulator. The results of a wide range of tests, conducted on a 3-kV A Mawdsley Microalternator, equipped with this system, are also presented and discussed.
