Abstract :
The feasibility of newly developed multiple-quantum-well (MQW) DFB LDs as light sources for a high-sensitivity optical CPFSK heterodyne detection system has been confirmed in 2 Gbit/s transmission experiments. An 8 MHz narrow beat linewidth and optimum modulation index resulted in -41.6 dBm high receiver sensitivity and 204 km transmission. This sensitivity was only 0.1 dB down from the 2 Gbit/s DPSK experiment result.
