Abstract
The nonlinear gain of quantum-well lasers is discussed theoretically. The results indicate that the nonlinear gain is enhanced by the quantum confinement of carriers. In addition, it is found that this nonlinear gain significantly reduces the differential gain, which results in degradation of modulation dynamics of lasers under a high photon density condition.
