Abstract :
A class of power estimators referred to as mixed time-based spectrum estimators (MTBSE) is considered. This class differs from the existing type of estimators in the estimation procedure of the autocorrelation function. The MTBSE allows the use of different numbers of samples to calculate the estimate at different lags. This flexibility introduces properties into the variance of the spectrum estimate that are not possessed by other estimators. Results show that the MTBSE can be formulated to favor the variance in some frequency bands over others. The width and the location of these bands are determined from the mixture of data samples used in the problem, i.e. the number of samples in relation to the lags to which they are assigned
