Abstract :
In 2009, IEEE is marking its 125th anniversary with a wide range of activities celebrating a century and a quarter of engineering the future. While it is fitting to see this occasion as an opportunity to look forward, it also is an occasion for IEEE to focus at least a little attention on how, from its modest beginnings in the United States, it grew to become the largest professional technical society in the world. The article looks at the historical development of the IEEE.
