Abstract
High-speed switching capabilities are demonstrated for an InP/InGaAsP optical injection-type directional coupler switch. Equal rise and fall times of 2 ns are achieved at low switching currents of only 10 mA. Modulation of the switch with pulses between 200 Mbit/s and 400 Mbit/s shows its suitability for asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching systems.
