Discussion on "Broaching by hydraulic machine on high speed steel broaches" at the Sheffield Section of the Institution

Mr.G. Gilfillan (Section President) : Mr. Young has given us an interesting paper to-night on a subject that I, personally, am pleased to see is so far to the fore. I am really surprised to find that broaching has advanced so rapidly. While I am surprised, I am gratified to learn that some firms are live enough to install these machines. With regard to the slide of the marine connecting rods, two thoughts passed through my mind. One was the economical cost of manufacture. There are various ways of manufacturing these connecting rods.
