  • Abstract
A new type of polarisation maintaining fibre, the polarisation maintaining composite fibre, has been fabricated. The fibre comprises two widely separated identical subfibres which have large birefringence and parallel polarisation axes. This fibre will be useful for the fabrication of compact polarisation maintaining fibre devices.
