Abstract :
10 Gbit/s, 6000 km NRZ signal transmission is demonstrated using 119 erbium-doped fibre amplifiers spaced at 50 km intervals. The optical pulse reshaping technique efficiently reduces the power penalty to less than 4.0 dB. The achieved bit-rate-transmission-distance product of 60 Tbits.km is the best value yet reported.
