  • Abstract
The EPSI experiment trigger system needs to know how many γ photons are generated by the K0 decay, what their total energy is, whether their Barycentre is on the beam axis, and where is the decay vertex position along the beam axis is: this parameter is related to the second-order momentum value. The PeakSum system was conceived to calculate all these quantities with a convenient precision based on custom VLSI chips. It is a pipelined circuit, designed to work with a pipeline clock period of 25 ns, but its components can be easily redesigned to have no internal pipeline stages. The heart of the system is the PeakSum chip, which is described
