Abstract :
This research presents a finite element method to analyze the electromechanical coupled field of a hydrodynamic-bearing (HDB) spindle motor of computer hard disk drives considering electromagnetics, thermal analysis, HDB, and rotor dynamics to investigate the coupling effect. Simulation results are verified by the experiments, and it shows that it is essential to include the appropriate coupled fields to predict the performance accurately. This research also investigates the electromechanical characteristics of a HDB spindle motor due to the electromechanical coupling effect.
