Abstract :
A graphical method to obtain the thrust of a thermomagnetic actuator with hybrid excitation by joining a group of finite-element reluctance computations is described. The calculated values of the thrust in the nonlinear magnetic region agree well with the experimental ones. The method gives a clear explanation of the fundamentals of hybrid excitation. The method is applicable where the magnetic circuit is excited by both magnets and current-carrying coils
