Abstract
In this paper, we consider the problem of how to optimally support multiple concurrent video sessions in an ad hoc network. Specifically, we present a framework on modeling the end-to-end video distortion as a function of routing layer behavior. Our formulation seamlessly integrates the interactions of competing video flows and network layer performance metrics, thus allowing optimal utilization of network resource. We describe a detailed solution procedure based on genetic algorithms (GAs), which allows joint determination of near-optimal routes and rates for the video sessions. We also present a greedy heuristic algorithm that can produce near-optimal solutions and speed up the GA computation. Through simulation results, we demonstrate the superior performance of the GA-based approach.
