Abstract :
The cathodoluminescence from germanium, aluminium and gallium doped optical fibre preform samples has been measured both spatially and spectrally. The results are compared with photoluminescence and ultraviolet absorption studies. It is shown that cathodoluminescent emission does not necessarily infer photosensitivity.
