Abstract :
Performance of convolutionally coded M-ary pulse position modulation (M-PPM) systems in the presence of slot synchronization errors is evaluated for the shot-noise-limited photon-counting receiver and the avalanche photodetection receiver. Both hard and soft (δ-max) demodulation results are given, and two soft-decision metrics are investigated
