Abstract
A procedure is offered for the evaluation of the energy savings obtained by the use of AC adjustable-speed drives on pumps, fans, and other types of driven equipment such as compressors or extruders and mixers. A method for the economic evaluation of the energy savings is also offered. The method that best insures that all the required factors will be considered is to calculate separately the energy usage by the adjustable-speed drive system and the base comparison system, and then evaluate the energy savings as the difference between the two usage figures. These procedures and the necessary databases have been incorporated into a user-friendly computer program that can be operated on any IBM PC or compatible computer
