Abstract :
The search for new dynamic RAM (DRAM) technologies to reduce memory access time and so unleash computer performance is discussed. The typical memory hierarchy of internal registers, cache, main memory, and mass storage is described. DRAM technologies that aim at simplifying this hierarchy by speeding up main memory to the point where the need for a separate, external cache is moot are examined.<>
