Abstract :
A numerical model of traveling field diffusion in conductive media is presented. It considers the real structure of the field source in several constructive and supply versions of an inductor. The heating and driving effects of the traveling fluid are studied. It is concluded that, when calculating a crucible furnace whose inductor is of the traveling field type, one should take into account the reduction of the active power at the same electric current in the inductor, in comparison with the one-phase inductor. The electromagnetic stirring of the bath by the action of the compression electromagnetic force is more intensive in the case of traveling field inductors, due to the unevenness of this component of the electromagnetic force over the bath vertical
