Abstract
An interlaced-to-progressive scan converter for improved PAL (phase alteration line) receivers is described. The system is based on fixed linear phase FIR (finite impulse response) interpolators of the Nyquist type. The dimensions of the luminance channel filter are considerable, however, its polyphase realization remarkably reduces structural complexity, maintaining the filter well within reach of present commercial technology. Various system aspects, from hardware considerations to perceptual performance, are examined
