Abstract :
The authors analyse the failure data of HV motors from 35 power stations in India. The probable causes of the failures are discussed including insulation failure and switching overvoltages. The authors discuss insulation tests, a protection plan for the motors, and remedial measures and preventive maintenance. By scheduling testing and maintenance, the number of failures should be reduced and motor performance improved
