  • Abstract
A comparison is made between passive ring-resonator and interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope sensitivity to the radiation darkening of optical fibers. The radiation degradation factor for each type of gyroscope is developed, and figures of merit are given for comparing gyroscopes independently of the specific mechanization or modulation scheme used. It is shown that for most practical situations, interferometric gyros offer superior performance in radiation environments
